Chiropractic care for babies, toddlers and the parents carrying them

Stride is a three-doctor practice on Leavenworth Street. We explain every step before we do it, and you stay with your child the whole visit.

Four places to begin

Start with where your family is

Each door opens a page about what a visit is like, what we do not claim and when to see your physician first.

  • Expecting

Care for the low back and pelvis while you are pregnant, with the Webster technique described plainly.

    During pregnancy
  • Babies

A short, quiet visit with light touch, in your arms, for the first year.

    For babies
  • Toddlers

Movement checks for crawlers, walkers and runners, with you in the room.

    For toddlers
  • Parents

Care for the back that lifts, carries and rocks all day.

    For parents

Before the services

What we do, and what we do not claim

Parents read closely, so we say it up front.

  • What we do

    • Check how your child moves and rests, with light touch

    • Adjust the spine and pelvis when the exam supports it

    • Describe the Webster technique as a technique, nothing more

    • Show you how to lift, carry and sit

    • Send you to your pediatrician, midwife or OB when it is theirs to handle

  • What we do not claim

    • To treat or prevent any illness in a baby, a child or a parent

    • To change how a pregnancy or a birth goes

    • To replace well-child visits, vaccines or your doctor's advice

    • A number of visits, or a result

    • That every healthy child needs to be seen

What a visit can include

Four parts, each one explained first

Not every visit has all four. Your doctor tells you which parts they suggest and why.

  • A talk

About your family, how your child sleeps, moves and plays, and what you hope to learn.

  • An exam

Watching how your child moves, with you beside them.

  • An adjustment

Light fingertip pressure, only if the exam supports it, and only with your yes.

  • Movement guidance

How to hold, carry and set down a baby without straining your own back.

A visit, in order

How a visit goes with a little one

  • 01

    You talk first

Nothing starts until we have talked and you have asked what you wanted to ask.

  • 02

    Your child stays with you

Babies stay in an arm or on a lap. Toddlers can hold a toy. Everyone stays dressed.

  • 03

The doctor says what they see

In plain words, before any touch.

  • 04

    You decide

You can say no, or stop, at any point. The plan is yours to take home and think about.

A few answers first

What happens at the first visit?

We talk about your family first, then the doctor does an exam, and explains what they found and what they suggest before any care. A parent stays with the child the whole visit, and your child stays dressed. You can say no to any part of it.

Is chiropractic care safe for my child?

Every kind of care has risks. Soreness or fussiness afterward is possible and usually short. Rare serious problems have been reported with chiropractic care, and your doctor explains the risks to you before any care for you or your child. If your child has a fever, trouble breathing, a fall with a head injury, or you are worried, call your pediatrician or 911 first.

Will it hurt?

For a baby or toddler the touch is light, about the pressure of a fingertip, and a parent holds the child. Adults usually feel pressure rather than pain, and some feel sore afterward. We stop whenever you or your child needs us to.

How many visits will we need?

Your doctor decides after the exam and changes the plan as your family goes. We do not promise a number of visits or a result, and you can stop at any time.

Do you take my insurance?

We are out of network and do not bill health plans. We give you an itemized receipt, and some plans reimburse part of it. How fees work explains each step.

Fees, in plain words

Insurance, paying yourself and the lines that make up a visit are on one page, with the written estimate you can ask for before you come.
