First visit

What the first visit is like

About 45 minutes. A parent stays with the child the whole time.

We would rather you arrive with questions than with answers. The first visit is a conversation, an exam and a plan you take home to think about.

In order

  1. 01

    Step 1: You arrive

Come a few minutes early. Babies can nurse, nap or eat in the waiting room first.

  2. 02

    Step 2: We talk

About your family, how your child sleeps and moves, and what you hope to understand. We do not ask you to fill in a health history on this website.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The exam

The doctor watches how you or your child move, with you in the room. Children stay dressed.

  4. 04

    Step 4: What we found

In plain words. If we suggest care, we explain what, why and what it costs before anything starts.

  5. 05

    Step 5: You decide

Take the plan home. Say yes, no or later.

What to bring

  • For your child

A comfort item, a snack and a spare outfit. A favorite toy helps.

  • For you

Your questions, and the name of your child's pediatrician or your midwife or OB if you want us to share notes.

  • For the visit

A plan to pay at the visit. We give you an itemized receipt and, if you ask, a written estimate first.

Questions about the first visit

What happens at the first visit?

We talk about your family first, then the doctor does an exam, and explains what they found and what they suggest before any care. A parent stays with the child the whole visit, and your child stays dressed. You can say no to any part of it.

Is chiropractic care safe for my child?

Every kind of care has risks. Soreness or fussiness afterward is possible and usually short. Rare serious problems have been reported with chiropractic care, and your doctor explains the risks to you before any care for you or your child. If your child has a fever, trouble breathing, a fall with a head injury, or you are worried, call your pediatrician or 911 first.

Will it hurt?

For a baby or toddler the touch is light, about the pressure of a fingertip, and a parent holds the child. Adults usually feel pressure rather than pain, and some feel sore afterward. We stop whenever you or your child needs us to.
